Donegal County Council is pleased to announce that its online Planning system has received further national recognition in winning the Chambers of Commerce Ireland Excellence in Local Government Awards 2007 – Planning Services.
This Award is in addition to previous recognition obtained at national level in 2006
and having been shortlisted earlier in 2007 as an example of Best Practice in European EGovernment On-line Service Delivery.
Councillor John Boyle, Méara, Donegal County Council, accepted the award on behalf of Donegal County Council at a major ceremony held on Thursday, 8th November 2007 at the Burlington Hotel, Dublin. The e-Planning system is a web based application which allows members of the public to access all details of planning applications over the Internet using a combination of database, document management and geographic information systems technology.
The online planning system was nominated for the Award by the Letterkenny Chamber of Commerce. The Letterkenny Chamber was represented by Mr Gary Clarke and Chambers Ireland was represented by Ms Joanne Sweeney.
2007 DOPS selected as a best practice eGovernment Online Service at the European eGovernment Awards
DOPS (Donegal Online Planning System) was one of the 52 short listed finalists in the Epractice.eu European Commission eGovernment awards, and was showcased as an example of best practice throughout Europe at the 4th Ministerial E-Government Conference in Lisbon Portugal Sept 2007. DOPS was selected under the category of Transparency and Participation as one amongst 12 other EU Applications.

Donegal County Council is pleased to announce receipt of a major National Award for pioneering work in the application of new technology in the delivery of public services.
On Thursday, 26th January 2006, An Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern T.D. presented Mr Brian Boyle, Head of Information Systems, Donegal County Council, with an award for the best project in the Government to Citizen category at the Inside Government Innovation through Technology Awards for the Council’s e-Planning system. The e-Planning system is a web based application which allows members of the public to access all details of planning applications over the Internet using a combination of database, document management and geographic information systems technology.
The Council’s Director of Planning and Economic Development, Mr Francis Coyle, said "this award is appropriate recognition of the Council leading out on the provision of enhanced customer service by making each Planning application available on the web".
Mr Brian Boyle, Head of Information Systems, Donegal County Council stated that "the ePlanning system had certainly captured the public’s interest in Donegal with an average of 60,000 hits per month. The Planning staff in Donegal are innovative thinkers and have co-operated hugely in the implementation of new technology in their service over the last number of years. In co-operation with the Planning Service, we hope to further develop Donegal County Council’s on-line Planning services over the next few years as part of the Council’s Information Systems Strategic Plan 2006-2009".

2003 Donegal County Council wins Local Government Computer Services Board Competition for Best Local Authority Intranet.

Donegal County Council was awarded the prize for the best Intranet application for its Telemetry Application. This system allows staff to receive real-time information on activity in water treatment plants and reservoirs direct to their desktops or over the internet.
