Donegal Gaeltacht on the road to the Information Highway !!!

Fóram Pobail Gaeltacht Thír Chonaill has launched a new Irish language internet forum www.donegal.ie/eforam , with the assistance of Údarás na Gaeltachta and Donegal County Council.

Speaking about the launch of this E-forum, Cathaoirleach of Fóram Pobail Gaeltacht Thír Chonaill, Mr. Seamus Rogers stated that “this new forum will help communities in the Donegal Gaeltacht to develop links and networks that will help them to share ideas and experiences and offer advise to each other”.

Fóram Pobail Gaeltacht Thír Chonaill is made up of representatives of the community and voluntary sector within the Donegal Gaeltacht region and was set up as part of Donegal County Development Board process. The main aim of Fóram Pobail Gaeltacht Thír Chonaill is to provide a collective voice for the community and voluntary sector within the Gaeltacht region.

Seán Ó Cuireáin, E Consultation Manager with the Community Culture and Enterprise Unit in Donegal County Council said that the project was undertaken because the Gaeltacht regions in the county are remote from each other and that these communities identified the need for easier ways to exchange information and ideas by using the latest information technology.

Communities in the Gaeltacht will be able to use this e-forum in many different ways, for example, they will be able to access and share information and avail of best practice approaches undertaken by other groups. The forum will also allow various organizations to get the views of communities within the Gaeltacht, providing for an efficient means of consultation.

“A unique aspect of this initiative has got to be the level of involvement of each of the community groups in the development of this online forum” said Seamus Rogers. “Each stage of the development was meticulously researched and developed by the groups. Ideas were exchanged and developed. As a result it can safely be said that the commitment given will be of great benefit to the greater Gaeltacht community”.

The community groups involved in the project are:
· Áislann Chill Chartha
· Pobal Páirtíochta an Iar-Dheisceart
· Comhairle Cheantair Ghleann Fhinne.
