County Development Board carries out detailed review of activities
Members of Donegal County Development Board met last week in Rossnowlagh to review its activities since the adoption of the County Strategy in 2002. The County Strategy set out a number of objectives in supporting the economic, social and cultural development of County Donegal over the period 2002 to 2012. Over these two days, the Board identified six priority areas, including
Economic Development & Economic Infrastructure to support job creation
Better Integration of Local Government & Local Development to provide seamless services to local communities
Environmental actions to support both conservation and how to positively exploit comparative advantage in County Donegal,
Cultural Linkages to develop the wealth of Arts & Cultural opportunities that the County has to offer,
Lifelong Learning to support individuals of all ages in attaining their own goals whether for personal, professional or employment opportunities, and
Social Inclusion which has the aim of identifying objectives of ensuring that all persons within the County have an opportunity to access services and supports on an equal basis.
Speaking during the event, Mr Michael O’hEanaigh, Director of Community, Culture & Enterprise, Donegal County Council outlined the progress that had been made since the strategy was adopted in 2002, and stated that “a key outcome of the County Development process is that strong working relationships have been developed on an inter-agency basis and on a co-operative, collaborative basis providing additional activities to the people of the County”. Mr O’hEanaigh further outlined in detail a range of specific projects that have been undertaken over the last three years and that provide tangible benefits to the people of the county on an ongoing basis.
Speaking at the conclusion of the County Development Board Event, Cllr Francis Conaghan, Chairman of the County Development Board stated that “while a substantial amount of work has already taken place, there are continuing and ongoing challenges for all development organisations and relevant stakeholders to work more efficiently together in order to ensure that the best possible opportunities are being developed for the people of Donegal both today and into the future”.
