The services of this office will benefit both members of the public and the professional users of OSi data, regardless of their level of expertise. This is a national service where mapping for any location in County Donegal, and other locations in the Republic, is available for purchase locally and the system is directly linked to the OSi database in the Phoenix Park, Dublin. The PLACE map series is aimed at professionals in the Planning, Legal, Agricultural, Construction and Engineering sectors as well as related industries thus Mapping can now be supplied in Digital format that is compatible with all CAD design software. Maps are printed in formats suitable for planning applications, property registration, agricultural and forestry grants. Older historic 6” and 25” 1st and 2nd edition mapping is also available and makes a perfect gift when framed.
Donegal County Council are delighted to introduce another public service into one of its network of Public Service Centres and welcomes the continued strong association with the Ordnance Survey Ireland in our County. There is a strong link between County Donegal and Ordnance Survey Ireland. Mapping in Ireland started out on the banks of Lough Foyle in County Derry in 1824, and spread out from this baseline in a series of triangulations. The first of these triangulation points, the concrete pillars familiar to any mountain walker on top of various peaks, were constructed in Inishowen. Our height data is now related back to Mean Sea level at Malin Head after a national tidal station was established in 1957.
