Donegal County Archives is currently preparing an exhibition, which will eventually travel to venues around the county, and is to focus on certain themes relating to life in Donegal over a century or so, based on the Archives’ own collections.
It will be called The Past in the Present and will be launched during Heritage week in August.
Themes include Journeys in Time, Childhood, Days of Toil, Days of Leisure, Rebellion, Landlords and Tenants, Religion/Churches, Home.
There are some gaps in our collections that we would like to fill.
If anyone has any Donegal related photos - past or present, but particularly past, of the following we would be delighted to receive them.
We would be particularly interested in:
· Photos of nuns and/or nurses working in Donegal,
· Photos of fishermen,
· Letters/photos relating to the war of independence/civil war in Donegal,
· Photos of churches/old photos of first communion/confirmation days etc.,
· Classroom/ School photos,
· Sporting photos.
Please note that we might be scanning some of the photos for inclusion in the exhibition panels. We would be especially delighted to receive outright donations but are grateful to receive loans too.
