Music and Memories: Reminiscing in Letterkenny

Venue: Regional Cultural Centre, Letterkenny

Donegal County Museum and County Archives in conjunction with the Regional Cultural Centre, are hosting an afternoon of reminiscence and traditional music on Wednesday 7th May.  Visitors are invited to sit back, relax and chat, listen to the music and enjoy a cup of tea for an hour or two.  There will be an opportunity to view a variety of historical items of local interest from the collections of the County Museum and County Archives.

Museum objects will include material ranging from christening robes, ration books, snuff boxes and stoles to railway timetables, ladies’ gloves, a gas mask from the Emergency years, and old postcards of towns and villages in Donegal.

Archives exhibited will include original material from the Letterkenny and surrounding area. Included will be: photographs from the town and wider area, old valuation books, photos of St Eunan’s college from 1922, electoral registers from the 1930’s, photographs of steam trains and the old railway station in Letterkenny, letters and photographs from the Castle Grove collection and of Ballymacool House. Other items will include a Register of the members of the Letterkenny Battalion of the Local Defence Force and a Register of people who signed up for the FCA Platoons in St. Eunan’s College.
