The members of the 28th Infantry Battalion, past and present, are to be conferred with the Freedom of Donegal by Donegal County Council at a civic reception in their honour at 2pm on 30th April in the County House, Lifford.
The 28th Infantry Battalion are to receive this award in recognition of their longstanding service to the County of Donegal. The Battalion are the fourth recipients of the specially commissioned award that will be presented to them by Mayor Gerry Crawford.
Commenting on the award, Mayor Crawford said “over very many years the members of the 28th Infantry Battalion have served this county and country in an exceptionally professional way, through a period which included very many difficult years.” He further stated “the Battalion Members and their families have also played a very significant role in the economic, social and cultural lives of the areas in which they lived. It is a fitting tribute to all personnel involved over many years that this County give recognition to them. The Council unanimously agreed to my proposal to award the Freedom of the County to the 28th Battalion and, as Mayor, I am delighted to have the honour of doing so” Mayor Crawford said.
