The Ultimate Christmas Light Show

A spectacular large scale light projection will change the face of the new Regional Cultural Centre building in Letterkenny every evening from the 16th to the 20th of December from 4pm to 10pm nightly. The project is entitled Centrefold and might best be described as an architectural origami. It will have the effect of transforming and dissolving the very distinctive aluminium clad building before your very eyes. This magical event promises to be a great family Pre-Christmas outing and is guaranteed to entertain people of all ages. It has been specially commissioned by the Centre in partnership Donegal County Council’s Public Art Programme and it is the first time that the work of internationally renowned artists Anna Heinrich and Leon Palmer can be seen in Ireland.

The artists have specialised in these one-off large-scale light projections since the early 90’s and have undertaken major commissions throughout Britain.
Their approach might be described as painting with light or using light and illusion as a means of constructing new architectural forms. The projects are essentially giant slide projections using large, high-powered machines capable of throwing images great distances and covering areas of up to 30 metres square. A sequence of about fifty different slides is projected to create a constantly evolving architecture of light.

Visitors will also have the chance to check out the inside of the building, with a fabulous free programme of screenings and exhibitions on offer each evening from 4 pm to 10 pm to coincide with Centrefold.
