Donegal County Council officially launched its campaign to promote the County as a destination for pre games training camps prior to the London 2012 Games on Monday in County House, Lifford.
Officially launching the marketing campaign, in County House, Lifford, Meara of Donegal County Council, Cllr. John Boyle said “ I am delighted to launch this marketing campaign which will see Donegal being promoted to over 400 sporting organisations throughout the world as an ideal location for pre-games training camps for the London 2012 Games.”
As part of the ongoing efforts to promote Donegal as a premier sporting destination, a Donegal Olympic Response Team has been set up within the Community & Enterprise Division, of Donegal County Council and this will provide a first point of contact for enquiries for prospective teams. In addition to this, the Council will be working closely with Donegal Sports Partnership in co-ordinating familiarization visits to the County.
The Council have produced a promotional brochure to profile Donegal’s appeal in terms of accommodation, access, transport, culture training facilities, medical supports and broadband-telecommunication services. The brochure will be used as Donegal’s calling card to over 400 National Olympic, National Paralympic Committees, and International Sports Federations throughout the world.
In closing the launch, Cllr. Boyle, remarked, “I would like to wish this initiative every success in its endeavours to capitalise not only on the economic opportunities that London 2012 presents but also on securing a positive legacy for sport in Donegal.”
