Archive of Grove Family items


Donegal County Council Archives Service introduces exhibition of items relating to the Grove family of Castle Grove House, Letterkenny.

A small exhibition of items relating to the Grove family of Castle Grove House, Letterkenny, recently purchased by the Archives Service, is currently on display in the foyer of the Archives office (the exhibition area), first floor, Three Rivers Centre.

All are welcome to come and see it during normal office hours.

Among the items on display are:

· Letters from Jame Grove from a hospital ship in Cairo to his mother, following his wounding during the Gallipoli campaign of World War 1 in 1915;

· Photograph albums of the Grove family from the late 19th century;

· 19th century postcard and bookmark;

· Handwritten Grove family recipe book from mid nineteenth century;

· Rental for the estate of Col R. G. Montgomery, 1895.


This display will continue until the end of August.

Whats coming up …

For the month of September, (Archives Awareness Month), including for Heritage Week (first week of Sept), there will be an exhibition displaying archival items relating to the county town of Lifford. More information to follow next month.

During Heritage Week, on Thursday 8th September, in the training room of the County House, there will be a one day exhibition on the theme of Elections- the last 100 Years.
