Milford Urban Renewal Project

Donegal County Council’s Urban & Village Renewal Section of the Planning & Economic Development Directorate wishes to announce the commencement of a further phase of urban renewal works in the town of Milford. As an important strategic town in County Donegal, Milford will greatly benefit from this urban renewal project which will make Milford an even better place to live, shop, visit and do business. This scheme represents an investment in Urban Renewal in Milford Town of over €1.3 million.

Following the completion of urban renewal works in 1998, a public consultation process was undertaken whereby it was agreed that renewal works along the Main Street should be prioritised. Milford is renowned for its uniquely narrow main and side streets, therefore it was recognised that alternative off-street car parking provision would be required to facilitate the progression of any renewal works on the Main Street.

Donegal County Council has recently completed the acquisition of suitable lands to accommodate the construction of a new car park and link road prior to the completion of renewal works along the Main street.

In order to ensure the minimum local disruption as possible, the project will be completed in two consecutive phases:

Phase 1 will involve the development of an off-street car park scheme plus the creation of a link road between the Kilmacrennan Road and the Church Road. Construction works to commence week beginning 11 March 2010.

Phase 2 comprises of Urban Renewal works along the Main Street between the Diamond and Public Service Centre road consisting of undergrounding of overhead services, new decorative lighting, street furniture and provision of new footpaths. Works are anticipated to commence on immediate completion of Phase I works.

It is anticipated works should be completed within a 26-week period.
Donegal County Council wishes to apologise for any inconvenience caused during this construction period and would greatly welcome and appreciate your co-operation on this matter.

This project is funded by Development Contributions collected by the Council within the Electoral Area in accordance with Section 26 of the Planning & Development Act 1963 and Section 48 of the Planning & Development Act 2000.
