As the dry spell continues Donegal County Council again wishes to appeal to people to conserve water. Regrettable, restrictions on some water supplies are inevitable at this stage to maintain reserves for daytime use. The Council will advise of any planned restrictions via local radio and with daily updates on the Council’s Internet site (see ‘announcements’ on the home page)
As noted in recent days this year to date has been particularly dry, with rainfall levels down more than 30% when compared with the same period last year. A number of lakes and rivers, which are abstraction sources for water supplies, are at a low level. The Council appeals to people to refrain from wastage or excessive use of water. We urge people to refrain from using the piped water supply for activities such as watering lawns and gardens, washing cars and washing down yards.
Please do not leave taps running at home, at work or in fields. Please check for faulty plumbing as dripping taps or running cisterns can account for considerable losses. Any suspected leaks on water-mains or wastage should be reported to the County Council in your local area office. People are urged to use water sparingly so as to avoid shortages throughout this dry period.
The co-operation of every community is required if we are to avert widespread water shortages and restrictions to supplies. Everyone is urged to play your part in conserving this precious resource. The Council are continually working to eliminate losses and conserve water and have made good progress. However we wish to see water conservation as everybody’s business.
Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
