First ever refuse collection service on Tory Island
Today, Tuesday 22 March, 2005 sees the beginning of the first ever refuse collection service on Tory Island. It is an initial 8 week pilot project funded by Donegal County Council and supported by Tory Island Co-op. It is hoped that this new pilot service will assist the islanders in developing a waste collection system that will eventually include the separation of waste before disposal.
Seamus McBride, the recently appointed Recycling Officer for the Gaeltacht, stated that the success of this pilot project will lead the way to a more integrated approach for refuse collection on the Island including the separation of waste before disposal and that this initiative will support and enhance the quality of life for people living on the island and for visitors to the island.
