Successful first three months at Stranorlar Civic Amenity Site

Suzanne Tinney, Waste Awareness Officer with Donegal County Council has expressed her delight at the number of people making use of Stranorlar Civic Amenity site. She stated that "in the first two weeks alone 7.62 tonnes of paper, 1.27 tonnes of plastic, 2.7 tonnes of scrap metal and 5.85 tonnes of electrical and electronic waste were collected at the site". She added that "the collection of electrical and electronic waste has been extremely successful with at least one articulated lorry leaving the site each week during the first 2 months".

The site has proved very popular with people from Ballybofey and Stranorlar and the surrounding area and on busy days cars have been queuing to use the site. Suzanne Tinney acknowledged the role played by staff at the site and said that "they have played a tremendous role in advising and assisting the public with their recyling and the site is being maintained to a very high standard. A number of local schools have arranged tours of the site and this will be an interesting experience for them".

The increased awareness of the importance of recycling is evident from the successful uptake of the services provided at the Civic Amenity Site and the Council is committed to providing similar sites throughout the county. Plans for Civic Amenity Sites at Laghy and Letterkenny are well underway with sites in Dungloe and Milford to follow. A similar site is in operation in Carndonagh.

The opening hours for the Stranorlar Civic Amenity site are Thursday 12.30pm to 7.00pm, Friday 8.30am to 2pm and Saturday 8.30am to 2pm.
