On Thursday last, 29th January 2009, Cllr Francis Conaghan, Chairman of the Donegal CDB Peace and Reconciliation Partnership officially launched the Donegal Peace III Action Plan. This formed part of the Special EU Programmes Body Roadshow, which is currently touring Northern Ireland and the Southern Border Counties to outline the opportunities for funding of projects under the Peace III programme.
During the Roadshow, presentations were made by representatives of the SEUPB, the Border Action/ Community Relations Council Consortium and the Donegal CDB Peace and Reconciliation Partnership. The Donegal Peace III Action Plan 2008 -2010 was compiled after an extensive public consultation process in early 2008 and outlines the type of actions that need to be undertaken to further promote peace and reconciliation in Donegal.
Speaking at the launch, the Chairman Cllr Francis Conaghan said that “it was the people on the ground, through their participation in consultations, and their written submissions, who identified the priorities, objectives, and actions that now form our action plan.” The total budget for the Donegal Peace III Action Plan 2008 -2010 is €4.7 million.
Cllr. Conaghan added that “the Donegal III Action Plan is there to be implemented, as its’ title suggests, it is about action and getting things done”. He further stated that “regarding the huge level of interest in the programme, this is a reflection of how vibrant the community sector is here in Donegal and how committed they are to working for peace and reconciliation in both their own communities and across the border”.
The Donegal Peace III Action Plan is supported by PEACE III Programme and managed for the Special EU Programmes Body by the Donegal Peace and Reconciliation Partnership.
