The internationally renowned musician, Phil Coulter, is to be conferred with the Freedom of Donegal by Donegal County Council at a civic reception in his honour at 2pm on 22nd May in the County House, Lifford.
Mr Coulter is to receive this award in recognition of his services to arts and music. His many works include the world famous ‘Congratulations’, the Eurovision Song Contest winner “Puppet on a String” and the Irish Rugby Anthem “Ireland’s Call”.
Mr Coulter, a native of Derry, has strong links with Donegal having being a regular visitor here since his childhood He has drawn on the county as a source of inspiration for many of his works.
Mr Coulter, is the third recipient of the specially commissioned award for recipients of the freedom of the county, and will be presented with the award by Mayor, John Boyle.
Mayor Boyle said “I am delighted in my capacity as Mayor, to be able to confer this special honour on Phil Coulter, on behalf of the Council and the people of Donegal, in recognition of his wonderful career and his special relationship with the County”.
