Forest Link Directory Launched

To coincide with National Tree Day on October 9th, the Mayor of the County of Donegal, Cllr. Gerry Crawford, launched the 2nd edition of the Forest Link Directory in the Council Chamber, Lifford.

The Forest Link Directory is a unique and valuable publication, which provides an invaluable reference to departments, key support organisations, contractors, consultants, products and services involved in all aspects of the forestry sector from “Seed to Sawdust” in the North West region.

The aim of this directory is to serve the interests of all timber growers in Donegal in a manner that will enhance the long term sustainability and profitability of their activities and which will promote the further growth and development of the forest industry. The Directory has been produced as an output of the Donegal CDB Forest Link Initiative, a County Development Board initiative whose core objective is to develop forestry as a natural resource within County Donegal in terms of delivering economic, social and development benefits to the county.

The CDB Forest Link project, since its inception in 2003, has acted as a catalyst in the recent development of the forestry sector in the county in terms of promoting and assisting the provision of wood fuel energy installations in the county, particularly those that make use of the local forestry resource. Donegal is now recognised nationally as the county that has developed this market most successfully with twice as many wood fuel installations in place as the next placed county.

The Donegal CDB Forest Link Initiative is funded by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and Donegal County Council. Copies of the Directory can be obtained from:
