The Past in the Present- A Donegal County Archives Travelling Exhibition

On Wednesday 10th September 2008 in the Courthouse, Lifford, the County Mayor launched the Archives Service’s unique travelling exhibition, The Past in the Present. The exhibition has been produced to celebrate the upcoming tenth anniversary of the County Archives Service in 2009. The exhibition is currently on public display in Letterkenny Public Service Centre and will move to Carndonagh Public Service Centre in November. Next year it will travel to other locations across the county. The exhibition celebrates 200 years of Donegal’s unique history and showcases the County Archives’ many collections. There are nine panels on display which are based around the following themes:

  • Homesteads
  • Donegal Wains
  • Fun and Games
  • Days of Toil
  • Faith and Worship
  • Journeys in Time
  • Landlords & Tenants
  • Conflict
  • Local Democracy.

The panels contain a brief history of the themes and are accompanied by images scanned from the County Archives collections.
