Junior Achievement

Across Donegal, Primary and Secondary students recently benefited from the advice and experience of the local authorities who delivered a range of the Junior Achievement programmes

On Monday 3rd Sept the business volunteers from Donegal Co Council gathered to receive their certificates from An Méara Clr. Gerry Crawford and the County Manager, Mr. Michael McLoone. The certificates and feedback report were presented to acknowledge the hard work and commitment of Donegal County Council to the surrounding schools.

Fifteen volunteers from Donegal County Council taught the programmes in local schools and helped the students gain a better understanding of the business world.

For the first time Junior Achievement had the opportunity to work in the Dungloe area, this was made possible by the support of Donegal Co Council. Michael O’hEanaigh Director of Community and Enterprise launched the programme in the Dungloe Public Service Centre in January.

Siobhan Kelly Area Mananger Junior Achievement commented, “We have had a very successful year and we are delighted that Donegal County Council are involved in the programmes again this year. They have been very committed in giving a helping hand to schools in the area. ”

Both partners are preparing for another successful year in Donegal and are hoping to increase in the number of participants for the 2008/09 school year. Donegal County Council has contributed between €7000 and €8,000.00 annually to Junior Achievement Ireland for the last five years of the programme.

Junior Achievement is also part-financed by the European Union’s Programme for Peace and Reconciliation and the Irish Government under the National Development Plan, and Managed for the Special EU Programmes Body by Border Action.
