Donegal County Council wishes to alert all households, businesses and water consumers in the Muff Village and area served from Drumhaggart Reservoir (from Rock Bar to Village to Diver’s Builders Providers) in relation to a problem with the public water supply.
Following recent analysis of the drinking water supply, the level of bacterial contamination was above the limits set in the current drinking water legislation.
The Council has consulted with the Health Service Executive and have been advised that in the interest of public health the water must be boiled before consumption.
This means you must boil all water to be used for the following purposes
- Drinking
- Preparation of drinks mage with water
- Food Preparation, especially vegetables to be eaten uncooked, e.g.Salads
- Making Ice
- Brushing Teeth
Care must be taken when bathing small children to ensure that they do not ingest water.
Great care must be taken with boiled water to avoid burns and scalds as accidents can easily happen, especially with children.
Donegal County Council will continue to monitor the water supply and will keep you informed through radio and written notices. Emergency calls in this regard can be taken at 074/9373709 during normal office hours, that is 9.00am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday, or at 074/9172399 outside of office hours.
This action is taken in the interests of public health. Measures already taken by the Council in this regard would suggest this incident will be complete in 2 – 3 days. The Council will await the advise of the HSE before the Boiling Notice is lifted.
