Heritage Week in County Donegal

National Heritage Week takes place from Saturday, August 17 to Sunday, August 25, 2019.  This year's theme is ‘Pastimes / Past Times’ and you are encouraged to explore the unique ways in which we choose to spend our free time and how this has evolved through the years.  If your event can address this theme, then all the better.  The Heritage Council will be producing a countrywide programme of events with support from the Department of Culture, Heritage & the Gaeltacht, Fáilte Ireland and Local Authority Heritage Officers.  On-line registration is now open at www.heritageweek.ie and all events registered by June 7 will be included in the National Heritage Week Event Guide.  The National Heritage Week Event Guide will be available free at County Heritage Offices, County Councils, libraries, Office of Public Works sites, National Parks & Wildlife Service sites, Fáilte Ireland tourist offices, heritage centres, historical societies, museums and hotels across the country.  Note also that there are two special themed days: ‘Wild Child Day’ on Wednesday, August 21 and ‘Water Heritage Day’ on Sunday, August 25.

Heritage Week is an opportunity to raise awareness of County Donegal’s built, cultural and natural heritage and to obtain some free publicity for events that you are planning.  You can register your event by completing the on-line registration form at: www.heritageweek.ie  In order to be included in the countrywide guide, events need to be registered by the Friday, June 7, 2019 deadline.  Events should be free of charge throughout the week.  Where this is not possible, organisers are asked to offer special concession rates.  The Heritage Council will promote National Heritage Week nationally and provide organisers with materials including posters and a programme of events to promote their activities so be sure to request these materials when you register on-line.

The County Donegal Heritage Office will compile the County Donegal ‘Heritage Week' Events Guide again this year.  The information submitted to The Heritage Council will be used to compile the pocket-sized county booklet that has proved so popular in recent years.
