National Heritage Week takes place from Saturday, August 22 to Sunday, August 30, 2015. County Donegal is one of the places to be during National Heritage Week with over 100 events taking place at regional venues across the county. Events include family open days, guided walks, built heritage open houses, heritage site visits, fieldtrips, exhibitions, illustrated presentations, photographic competition, children’s activities, genealogical research, storytelling sessions, traditional music, craft fairs and traditional skills demonstrations. National Heritage Week is coordinated by The Heritage Council & Local Authority Heritage Officers with support from the Department of Arts, Heitage & the Gaeltacht and Fáilte Ireland.
Heritage Week is an opportunity to raise awareness of County Donegal’s built, cultural and natural heritage and to obtain some free publicity for your events. This year's theme is Ireland's Industrial and Design Heritage. The County Donegal Heritage Office is compiling the free pocket-size County Donegal ‘Heritage Week' Events Guide again this year which has proved so popular in recent years. It will be available free-of-charge from the County Donegal Heritage Office, Donegal County Council in early August.
