Donegal Travellers exhibit traditional horse-drawn caravan

If you have always wanted to get a good look at a traditional horse-drawn Barreltop Traveller Caravan, then now’s your chance. The Donegal Travellers Project are staging an exhibition of a Barreltop caravan, along with hand-crafted Traveller tools, utensils and furniture on Friday 24th September, as part of Letterkenny Culture Night.

The caravan was constructed by the late Mikey Connors of Canal Road in Letterkenny and is a brilliant example of Traveller design, artistry and craftsmanship, says DTP director Siobhán McLaughlin. It will visit An Grianán Theatre from 7-8pm and the Create A Link Artists Studios from 8.30-9.30pm, adds Siobhán.

The DTP are also holding two Photographic Exhibitions at their offices on Pearse Road (above McGinley’s Garage). Traveller Life in Donegal and Invisible Heroes - both feature works created by members of the Traveller community including Aggie Boyle, Rose Ward, Anne Marie Ward and Bernie Boyle.
