The Higher Education Grants Scheme provides financial assistance to students in approved third level colleges.
Donegal County Council administers the Department of Education Higher Education Grant Scheme for students who commenced their course before 2012/13 academic year at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
It is a means tested award and consists of a maintenance element and payment of fees/student registration fees in the Republic of Ireland.
The administration of the Higher Education Grants Scheme was centralised in 2012.
