Donegal County Council is leading out on an audit of all Community and Voluntary groups and indoor community facilities in the County. This work is being carried out by the Research and Policy Unit of the Council with the assistance of a number of community based researchers. The project is being funded under the EU Programme for Peace and Reconciliation, Measure 3.3 Building Better Communities.
Objectives of the Project:
To enhance access to Community Infrastructure in the County by:
- Identifying existing Community Infrastructure (Community and Voluntary Groups and Facilities) in the county
- Carrying out an audit of these Community and Voluntary Groups and Facilities
- Carrying out a Strategic Needs Analysis of Community and Voluntary Groups and Indoor Facilities
- Mapping Community and Voluntary Groups and Facilities on a Sectoral and Geographical Basis
- Training Community Based Researchers on Basic Research Methods and Approaches and empower to them assist with the implementation of this project.
Key outputs of the project
- A database/listing of all Community and Voluntary Groups in County Donegal
- A series of GIS Maps that will identify the location of each Community & Voluntary Groups & Facilities in County Donegal by Sector, Townland, DED and LEA and will contain attribute information specifying where and when Community and Voluntary Groups meet, timetabling/ programming of activities in facilities, meeting facilities/equipment available, contact details for groups etc
- An accurate assessment of the key short term, medium term and long term key strategic development needs of Community and Voluntary Groups in the County.
- A resource to facilitate/guide key long term strategic investment in the Community Sector in County Donegal
- A Directory of Contact Details for Community and Voluntary Groups in 23 different sectors (i.e. Women, Men, Sports & Recreation, Community Development, Ex-Prisoners, Childcare & Play Group, Housing & Residential Association, Refugees & Asylum Seekers, Heritage, Youth, Development, Travellers, Older People, Tourism, Festival, Environment, Disability, Culture, Religious, Enterprise, Rural Transport, Parish Council, Other) in County Donegal
- A Directory of Contact Details of Community and Voluntary Groups by Geographical Remit (Townland, District Electoral Division and Local Electoral Area) in County Donegal
