Taobh Tíre is a pilot research programme run by Donegal County Council in association with the Library Council of Ireland (An Chomhairle Leabharlanna). It is investigating an implementing new and innovative ways of providing library services in isolated communities across County Donegal.
The project has set up library service points in a variety of locations across the County from community centres to post offices. A service point consists of a taster collection of books and a computer with access to the Internet, which in turn gives access to the library catalogue.
What’s in it for you?
There are over 170,000 items in the catalogue so there is a lot to choose from. You can reserve and request books from the catalogue and have them delivered directly to your nearest service point. Once you have finished with the book it can be picked up from the same point and returned to the branch library.
As well as access to the library’s catalogue you can have the benefit of access to other library services also. For example if you have an information query you can use the Ask – A – Librarian service on the website. This gives you access to qualified professional librarians that can help you with your query. Other benefits of becoming a Taobh Tíre member include access to book groups, video clubs, access to on-line information databases and access to business information. It’s that simple and best of all it is all free!!
