The Higher Education Grants Scheme provides financial assistance to students in approved third level colleges. Donegal County Council administers the Department of Education Higher Education Grant Scheme for undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The VEC administers the scheme for Institutes of Technology and Technical Colleges.

It is a means tested award and consists of a maintenance element and payment of fees/student registration fees in the republic of Ireland (fees for postgraduate courses in Northern Ireland are also covered).

Application Forms for 2011/12 can be submitted online at www.studentfinance.ie or , downloaded from www.studentfinance.ie.  Guidance notes and course acceptance forms can also be downloaded from this site. The application forms are for school leavers entering third level education and for students wishing to pursue postgraduate courses in the 2011/2012 academic year.
