€2.5 million investment scheme for Built Heritage announced for 2019 

 

On the 28th November, 2018 Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Ms Josepha Madigan, TD, announced the continued implementation of the Built Heritage Investment Scheme in 2019.  The Built Heritage Investment scheme (BHIS) seeks to encourage the leveraging of private capital to invest in a number of small-scale, labour-intensive projects to repair and conserve structures protected under the Planning and Development Act 2000 (as amended) and in certain cases, for the conservation of structures within Architectural Conservation Areas, and to support the employment of skilled and experienced conservation professionals, craft workers and tradespeople. 

 

The scheme will once again be administered by the local authorities in 2019.  Project supports will range from a minimum of €2,500 to a maximum of €15,000 per application. 

 

A baseline amount of €60,000 has been allocated to Donegal County Council for 2019  

 

To be considered for grant aid, applications should be submitted to Donegal County Council before 4.30pm on Friday, 25th January 2018.

Historic Structures Fund 2019

 

Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht have announced the Historic Structures Fund 2019 (HSF) (Formerly the Structures At Risk Fund) with a total national fund available of up to €1.824 million.

 

The purpose of the Historic Structures Fund 2019 (HSF) is on caring for and restoring historic structures and buildings for the benefit of communities and the public.

 

Full details of the scheme are contained within Historic Structures Fund 2019 Circular which has been issued to all local authorities. The circular outlines the operation of the scheme and includes the relevant application forms.

 

The Historic Structures Fund will have two Streams:

 

  • Stream 1 will offer grants from €15,000 up to €50,000 and is aimed at essential repairs and smaller capital works.

  • Stream 2 will offer a small number of grants from €50,000 up to €200,000 for larger enhancement, refurbishment or reuse projects involving heritage structures, where a clear community of public benefit has been demonstrated.

 

Note: only one application will be considered per historic structure i.e. you can only apply for one stream.

 

Please note that due to the limited capital resources available for the operation of the HSF (€1.824 million). The Department will consider no more than 3 applications in stream 1 and only 1 application maybe submitted for stream 2 per local authority (LA).
