The Councils newly formed Regeneration & Development Team has published exciting plans for place based transformation and inter-related urban regeneration interventions in Killybegs, which seek to enhance the public realm and strengthen the physical, social and economic capacity of the Town. Broadly, the proposed development seeks to support and service the growing tourism sector through the reuse of the building known as Island House as a tourism facility in conjunction with the development of a digital Hub (also in Island House) to support and foster further business, enterprise and innovation in Killybegs. The Island House re-development is also supported by the proposed transformation of the existing public car park at the Diamond to a civic space to deliver area based regeneration that will encourage visitors and residents to the town centre and increase dwell times.
The Specific nature of the proposed works are:
It is envisaged that the proposal will form part of a longer term, multi-faceted and potentially multi-annual regeneration strategy that connects place making and enhancement of the civic space of the town with support for two growing economic sectors in Killybegs, namely tourism and business/enterprise innovation. Subject to completion of the Part 8 planning process it is anticipated that this project will be the subject of an application for funding to the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund (RRDF) by the Council.

The proposed plans will be available for inspection from Tuesday 21st May 2019 –Tuesday 18thJune 2019.
Submissions and observations with respect to the proposed development, dealing with the proper planning and development of the area in which the development is situated may be made in writing to The Co. Secretariat, Donegal County Council, Lifford, County Donegal, before 4.30pm on Wednesday 3rd July 2019.
