Central Planning UnitThe Central Planning Unit prepares Development Plans plus Local Area Plans and other planning policy related documents in accordance with the Planning Acts, which act as blueprints to guide development proposals throughout the County. The unit is also responsible for Conservation matters and the preparation, updating and maintenance of the Record of Protected Structures.
Development ChargesWhen granting planning permission the Council may impose conditions requiring a contribution from developers towards the cost of services, which facilitate development.
Planning EnforcementThe Council will seek to regulate the carrying out of development where the developer has not received the appropriate permission, and will take steps to ensure compliance where development is not being carried out in compliance with the permission issued
LicencesCasual Trading: Bye-Laws have been adopted by the Council and casual trading areas have been designated at the a number of locations in the County. Casual trading can only take place at these locations, and the Council regulates the use of these areas by way of licence.
Licencing of Appliances: A licence is required in respect of the erection, construction, placing or maintaining of appliances, cables, signs etc on public roads/ footpaths
Economic DevelopmentThrough the Economic Development Section, the Council manages a County Wide programme of Urban and Village Renewal and Regeneration Projects using its own resources and a wide range of external funding sources. It is also involved in the development of lands for economic, community and recreational purposes.
