About the Pettigo Regeneration Project

The overall objective of the PEACE III Programme is to reinforce progress towards a peaceful and stable society and promote reconciliation in Northern Ireland and the Border Region. The Pettigo / Tullyhommon Termon project will encourage cross community, cross border interaction and engagement and will be instrumental in the redevelopment and enhancement of the physical environment as well as kick starting the economic rejuvenation of the area, which has suffered economically and socially due to the conflict of the past thirty years.

This project aims to regenerate the twin villages of Pettigo and Tullyhommon, which straddle opposing sides of the border by the River Termon, and their surrounding areas and promote the emergence of a vibrant, economically active and integrated community.

As outlined in the Concept Plan, the Termon Project comprises of a number of interconnected strands as follows:

• The Termon River Project will link the villages through the development of a riverside park extending along the Termon River from the lay-by/picinic area in Tullyhommon to a riverfront picnic area in Pettigo, crossing the river with a new footbridge.

• The Core Project involves the complete redevelopment of the community centre site in Pettigo to provide a wide range of new facilities including:

o A new multi-purpose centre ‘The Termon Centre’ which will facilitate indoor sports, large meetings/conferences, drama productions & concerts, ADoPT offices, etc.
o An outdoor multi-use games area (MUGA)
o A new playschool with secure private playground
o A new public playground and community garden
o Recycling space, car parking and horticultural tunnels.

It will also involve extensive refurbishment works to the Methodist Hall in Tullyhommon to facilitate its usage as a Youth cafe.

• The Environmental Improvement Project will include renewal works where required including new footpaths, undergrounding of services, decorative street furniture, visual improvements to the river and uplighting of the bridges, etc.

• The Heritage Architectural Project will involve the provision of a town-painting scheme (to incentivise the painting of buildings in the villages).

• The Community in Action Plan is a programme of community activities centred around the proposed infrastructural project to ensure that the new facilities become shared public spaces, enjoyed by all communities. The Community in Action would be delivered at grass roots level by ADoPT.
