Local Authority Graduate Programme - now recruiting

The local authority sector is now recruiting for Graduate positions which we plan to fill in 2021. 

 

You can make a difference for your county and community, contribute to the important work councils do and gain experience across a wide range of areas.

 

What’s on offer?

 

Successful candidates will be offered a three-year fixed term contract with a local authority. Candidates can indicate which local authorities they are interested in at application stage.

 

The annual salary for graduate positions is €31,221 (single point salary scale).

 

Graduates will also participate in a three-year structured graduate development programme. The aim of the development programme is to ensure that at the end of the three-year period each of the graduates will have demonstrated their competence in their chosen skills area.

 

What roles are available?

 

We are looking for candidates across seven skills areas.


Economic Enterprise and Business Development

Graduates with qualifications in and a strong interest in Economic Enterprise and Business Development can become involved in the important work of the local enterprise offices, which provide supports and advice to entrepreneurs, start-ups and small business.

 

Project and Programme Management

Graduates with qualifications in and a strong interest in the areas of project and programme management can be placed with a project team in the local authority.

 

Innovation Strategy and Change Management

In a time of widespread change local authorities have to examine how they deliver their services. Graduates with qualifications in and a strong interest in the areas of innovation, strategy and change management can expect to be placed with a project team tasked with examining existing business processes and implementing change.

 

HR Management

Graduates with qualifications and a strong interest in the areas of Human Resource Management or Human Resource Development improve their competency by becoming part of a local authority HR section.

 

Communications and Marketing

Graduates with qualifications in and a strong interest in the areas of communications, marketing and social media can become part of a local authority communications team.

 

Data Analytics and Data Metrics

It is anticipated that graduates with qualifications in and a strong interest in this skills stream will be involved if successful with their application, as part of a team, in the development of suitable metrics which can be used to report on service delivery levels.

 

Climate Action        

It is anticipated that Graduates with qualifications in and a strong interest Climate Action will if successful be assigned to either one of the regional Climate Action Offices (CAROs) or to a local Climate Action Team within an individual local authority. Graduates can expect to gain hands on experience of implementing Climate Action policies and on contributing to the development of sustainable solutions aimed at addressing national, regional and local climate issues.

 

Applicants can apply for more than one skills area and can apply for vacancies in specific local authorities. Details of where each of the vacancies in each skills area is located are provided on the application form.

Candidates should fill out the application form available there and return the signed form to [email protected] before the closing date of 3pm on Thursday the 17th December 2020.

 

Candidates can choose which skills areas and which local authorities they are interested in.

 

Applications will be shortlisted based solely on the direct relevance of an applicant’s academic qualifications to the skills area being applied for. Graduates who are successful at the shortlisting stage will proceed to a regional interview stage.
