In addition to major bridge works, depending on the funding available, the council strengthens and repairs up to a dozen bridges annually under its Bridge Strengthening Programme.
Annually, depending on the funding available, approximately six to twelve non-national bridges are repaired in Donegal each year. Works typically consist of, sour protection, deck replacement, and specialist repair and strengthening of masonry arch bridges by means of guniting and grouting.
Donegal County Council carries out similar strengthening and repair of bridges on national routes on behalf of the National Roads Authority.
