Water Supply Update - July 2010
The long dry period has been interrupted with some welcome rain falling in early July. Donegal County Council continues to appeal to people to conserve water.
AVOID WASTAGE / REPORT LEAKAGE
The Council appeals to people to refrain from wastage or excessive use of water. We urge people to refrain from using the piped water supply for activities such as watering lawns and gardens, washing cars and washing down yards
Please do not leave taps running at home, at work or in fields. Please check for faulty plumbing as dripping taps or running cisterns can account for considerable losses.
Any suspected leaks on water-mains or wastage should be reported to the County Council in your local area office.
APPEAL TO ALL COMMUNITIES TO ASSIST WITH THIS MESSAGE TO CONSERVE WATER
The Council are continually working to eliminate losses and conserve water and are making good progress
We are asking everyone to play your part in conserving what is a precious resource. Water conservation is everybody’s business.

Other Tips:
Check outside taps, field connections, drinking troughs, etc. on a regular basis and repair any faults and leaks immediately .
Do not leave taps running at home, at work or in fields.
Turn off all unnecessary cisterns, particularly in schools and toilet blocks and replace with water efficient devices. Turn off automatic flushes when buildings are closed or not in use.
Turn off any unnecessary flows and equipment when not in use. Ensure water pressures and flows are set at minimum required settings.
Replace worn out or broken equipment with systems that use water efficiently.
People are urged to refrain from washing cars and watering gardens with hosepipes. (Consider collecting rainwater for washing cars and watering plants/gardens. Rainwater is excellent for your garden. Collect it in a water butt fed from your gutters but always make sure to securely cover large containers for safety. Talk to your local Garden Centre they will be able to advise you about modern safe water collection systems.)
If you have any queries arising from this notice contact your local office.
People paying Commercial Water Rates could reduce their annual bills significantly if they followed these steps. Any suspected leaks or wastage should be reported to the County Council in your local area.
