Donegal County Council is the Fire Authority for all of County Donegal.
A fire authority is required to make reasonable provision for the prompt and efficient extinguishing of fires occurring in building and other places and for the protection and rescue of persons and property from injury by fire. The brigade also respond to non-fire emergencies such as traffic accidents and flooding.
- Donegal County Council maintains fire stations in the following towns around the county: Letterkenny, Stranorlar, Donegal Town, Ballyshannon, Bundoran, Killybegs, Glencolmcille, Glenties, Dungloe, Gweedore, Falcarragh, Milford, Buncrana, Moville, Carndonagh and Arranmore Island
- Arranmore Island and Tory Island have voluntary fire fighters
- Northern Ireland covers three areas along the border on a first call basis from Northland Road in Derry, Strabane and Pettigo.
Charges for Fire Service
Fire Service Charges are an important element of the financing of the fire service. Donegal County Council charge €100.00 per brigade for a domestic call out. Commercial premises and road traffic collisions callouts are charged; the no. of hours brigade attended x no. of men. x rate per hour plus 30% for administration.
