A locally based brewing company that specialises in creating flavoursome craft beer, is in Boston this week as part of a high-level trade and investment delegation led by the Councils of Derry City and Strabane District and Donegal County Council.
The delegation, which is led by the two Mayors, Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council Cllr John Boyle and An Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council Cllr Seamus O’Domhnaill, is travelling to the US alongside Council officials and representatives from local further education providers and development organisations.
The purpose of the visit is to build on the work done over the past number of years to build strong political, economic and cultural links and to reach out to the diaspora. Key to the visit is the inclusion of the local companies to promote the region as an attractive investment proposition and to develop new market and network opportunities in both Boston and Philadelphia.
John Wauchob from Baronscourt Brewing Company says being part of the trade delegation will allow the company to showcase its unique product to a global market and allow them to build new trade relations with a view to looking at opportunities to expand the business.
He commented: “We are a very unique brewing company. We are a farm-based family run brewery and the only brewery in County Tyrone. The spent ingredients of our brewing are used in an Anaerobic Digester adjacent to our brewery yard, thus making us Ireland’s first renewable energy run brewery. Our hopes for the future are to expand our business so that we are producing all of our own raw ingredients and we feel that by having the brewery based on the farm it gives us the scope we need to achieve this in the near future.”
“We are really looking forward to participating in the trade mission and hope it will allow us to make our product global but at the same time maintain it as a family-run Irish business. Taking part in the trade delegation will greatly assist us with our plans to expand on our production and business growth. We really want to cultivate our own raw ingredients, malts, hops etc and continue with our plans to establish an adjoining gastropub business with luxury rustic barn accommodation, where visitors can also participate in brewing and crop harvesting.”
John added: ““We are hugely excited about exploring the US market further and looking at what opportunities there are for us to establish an export agreement and to get an insight into American product demand.”
Key to Baronscourt Brewing Company’s success to date is their focus on flavour and quality, something John believes will prove popular to the US market who are keen to sample an authentic taste of Ireland on their doorstep.
“We create a superb artisanal Irish craft beer that has a unique flavoursome taste and is brewed on our family farm in the heart of the Tyrone countryside. We are really looking forward to bringing our increasing product range of Huntsman Wheat Beer, the Last Stag Red Ale, Black Sheep Stout and Pheasant’s Hop IPA to the market for the first time and seeing what opportunities exist for us to develop it further.”

The North West City region trade mission will run from 12 to 16 November with the two Mayors and officials visiting both Philadelphia and Boston and the businesses travelling to Boston only. The aim of the visit is to build on the strong political, economic and cultural linkages already established in both cities with the North West City region.
This visit is part of the ongoing positive work being done by the two Councils to establish strong economic development links and initiatives in the US and will build on the work done over the last number of years in promoting the North West region as an attractive investment proposition and on developing new market and network opportunities for businesses from Donegal, Derry and Strabane areas.
Among the companies travelling are from Donegal – Triona , while Atlantic Hub, Joule Group, Northern Ireland Clinical Research Sciences, Automated Control Systems, Baronscourt Brewing Company and Bridie Mullin Ltd. from the Derry and Strabane area will also be taking part alongside both Councils, third level and further education providers and development organisations from across the North West including Ulster University, Letterkenny Institute of Technology, the North West Regional College and Udaras na Gaeltachta.
