The 21st Annual Bealtaine Festival was launched by Cathaoirleach Cllr. Gerry McMonagle in the Regional Cultural Centre, Letterkenny on Tuesday.

Bealtaine is an annual festival which celebrates and promotes creativity in older age during the month of May and is one of the highlights of the Cultural Services calendar.  The theme of this year’s festival is ‘Be our guest’.

Entertainment at the launch was provided by Donegal’s own Patsy Cavanagh, and was followed by an excerpt from the play ‘The Barber of Moville’ by the Mockingbird Theatre Group.  This play is on tour in barber shops throughout Donegal during the Festival.

Bealtaine 2018 in Donegal is part of a country wide celebration of creativity in older age.  Throughout Bealtaine, Cultural Services works to bring a wide range of cultural and art events to our older generation in venues throughout Donegal.

During 2018 events will range from exhibitions, sean nós dancing, plays, storytelling, yoga, reminiscence sessions, historical walks and talks, computer classes, indoor bowling competition, chairobics, and Colour Me Beautiful workshops.  Local talent Fergus Cleary, Patsy Cavanagh, Virgil Quinn and Aussie Bryson will also provide entertainment at events during the festival.

You can download a programme listing information about events in libraries, and Taobh Tíre centres, theatres, arts and community venues and in the Regional Cultural Centre or pick up a programme at your local library.
