Bernard McGuinness, Chairs of North West Regional Development Group and Elisha McCallion MP meeting with members of the Joint Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement in Derry on Wednesday.
Cathaoirleach, Mayor and Chief Executives of Donegal County Council and Derry City and Strabane District Council together with the Chairs of the North West Regional Development Group and the local MP met with representatives of the Joint Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement as part of their outreach programme during a visit to the North West region yesterday.
The civic leaders used the meeting to brief the committee on the significant progress on the innovative and collaborative cross border work over the past three years that have been supported by funding from the Fresh Start Agreement.
During the meeting the delegation discussed how to progress the North West City Region and stressed the interconnectedness of the region in terms of social, economic and environmental wellbeing.
The delegation sought the committee’s support in the progress of the A5, the expansion of the Ulster University at Magee and the enablement and facilitation of students from Donegal to attend the Campus. The delegation also lobbied for future territorial co-operation funding and continued investment into the border area. They also stressed the importance of the City Deal proposition for Derry and the need for any investment to be mirrored in Donegal.
