Who do you think

Want to explore your Donegal roots?  Then don’t miss the free genealogy workshops taking place as part of Donegal Connect on 1st October in Donegal Town and on 4th October in Letterkenny.

The workshops will show you how to research your family history and Donegal genealogy. Staff from Donegal County Council’s Museum, Archives and Library services will be on hand to help with any queries, providing advice and support.

County Archivist Niamh Brennan says “the workshops will be particularly useful to those who are just starting their family history journey. If you haven’t gained much experience yet in Irish or Donegal family history research, then you will pick up lots of tips and advice.”

“Archives, Library and Museum staff will guide you through the range of sources available to you.  Presentations will focus on how to use resources like valuation records, voters’ registers, workhouse admission registers, and local and family history themed books.”

Niamh says the workshops will include demonstrations on the many free databases available to view online. “They will also explore the various archival institutions and organisations that can help to guide researchers in tracing their Donegal genealogy.”

On 1st of October, the first workshop takes place at the Public Services Centre in Donegal Town. It consists of 3 one-hour sessions for you to choose from which start at 10am, 11.30am and 1pm. The second workshop takes place on 4th October at the Central Library in Letterkenny. It also has 3 sessions on offer at the same times.
