03/12/19 Putting a Purple Spotlight on Disability this Tuesday

Purple building

Today is ‘International Day of Persons with Disabilities’ and Donegal County Council will be joining the rest of the country and the Disability Federation of Ireland in putting a purple spotlight on disability.

All Public Service Centres across Donegal will display external purple lighting to celebrate the resilience of people with disabilities both in Donegal and internationally.

Anyone can show their support by wearing something purple or by sharing the purple glow using the campaign hashtag #PurpleLights19 .

“We are delighted to be part of this international campaign celebrating the resilience of people with disabilities” says Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council Cllr. Nicholas Crossan.

“This is an opportunity to start a wider conversation about disability and by lighting up our Public Service Buildings and An Grianan Theatre in Letterkenny, we are making our support visible on International Day of Persons with Disabilities”.

“There are over 21,000 people with a disability living in Donegal and today is a great day to demonstrate our commitment to making Donegal a fully inclusive society and a place where everyone has an opportunity to fulfil their own potential.  Today is about celebrating the resilience and strength of people with disabilities living in Donegal and showing our solidarity with people with disabilities living across the world.”
