Donegal County Council Chief Executive, Mr. John McLaughlin this month launched the Move to Improve 100km Staff Walking Challenge. The Move to Improve 100km Staff Walking Challenge is being rolled out in conjunction with Healthy Donegal and the Staff Health and Wellbeing Office and runs over a four week period starting on 21st March 2022 until 15th April 2022.

This light-hearted, fun group event aims to promote the physical, mental and social benefits of exercise! While the physical and mental health benefits are widely documented, the social aspect of exercise is often overlooked - team events can help develop social skills, encourage team-building and improve self-esteem.

How will the Move to Improve 100km Staff Walking Challenge benefit our team?

The Move to Improve 100km Staff Walking Challenge is a pilot workplace initiative open to Donegal County Council staff that aims to:

  • give us an increased awareness of our physical activity levels
  • motivate us to become more active
  • improve staff morale
  • improve our health

Research tells us that the most common reasons employees sign up to a Health challenge are:

  • fun
  • fitness
  • to lose weight
  • most importantly – because it’s organised by the workplace

Healthy Donegal is helping to create and sustain a healthy place for our community in Donegal through the development and implementation of the Healthy Ireland programme.
