Local Community Development Committee (LCDC)
The Government’s Action Programme for Effective Local Government, Putting People First sets out reforms to local government to provide it with a more central role in economic and local community development. The subsequent Local Government Reform Act 2014 (Part 6) provided for the dissolution, by order, of the City and County Development Boards and the establishment of Local Community Development Committees to enhance strategic planning and co-ordination of local and community development.
The first meeting of the Donegal Local Community Development Committee took place on the 1st July 2014 in CountyHouse, Lifford. The committee has nineteen members, comprising of public-private socio-economic interests and they will develop, co-ordinate and implement a coherent and integrated approach to community development in Donegal. The work will be directed through the implementation of Local Community and Economic Development Plans which will have regard for cross-cutting objectives of national and European social development strategies.
This work will be supported through various funding programmes controlled by the Committee which will include the new Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme (SICAP) and the Rural Development Fund called LEADER.
The secretariat and management function for the Donegal LCDC sits within the Community Cultural and Planning Directorate of Donegal County Council.
