Ulaid

Music and workshop featuring Ulaid

The Regional Cultural Centre’s autumn music programme continues with concerts by two great trios over the coming days.

Friday, October 23

8pm, Ulaid - John McSherry, Dónal O’Connor, Seán Óg Graham

Ulaid are a new traditional group featuring three of Ireland’s finest musicians, John McSherry (uileann pipes) and Dónal O’Connor (fiddle) from At First Light are joined by one of the country’s most sought after accompanists Seán Óg Graham (guitar) from Beoga.

Their concert at the RCC is part of a nationwide tour to launch their much anticipated debut album that is due to be released on the night of their gig in Letterkenny. Ulaid will be supported by Coirm, a 15 strong ensemble that was set up by Paul Harrigan of the Ceol na Coille Irish Music School in October 2013 and is comprised mainly of senior students of Ceol na Coille along with a number of members of the Donegal Youth Orchestra.

Saturday, October 24

1pm, Music Workshops with John McSherry, Donal O'Connor and Sean Óg Graham

This is a great opportunity for musicians in Donegal to attend a workshop with three of Ireland’s finest traditional musicians. Ulaid are doing workshops on Saturday afternoon following their concert at the RCC on Friday night.  Each musician will do a one hour workshop in their individual instruments – John McSherry in pipes and whistle, Donal O'Connor in fiddle and Sean Óg Graham in guitar and accordion, before coming together to do an arrangement / accompaniment workshop. The workshop fee is €10, this also entitles you to attend the concert on Friday and it’s expected that workshop participants will also attend the concert. To book a workshop place please telephone the RCC on (074) 9129186 or e-mail [email protected], advance booking is essential. Workshop participants should purchase their concert/workshop tickets at the RCC Front Desk before the concert on Friday evening.

Wednesday, October 28

8pm, GoGo Penguin

GoGo Penguin are known for their skittering break-beats, infectious piano melodies, propulsive basslines and anthemic riffs. The highly acclaimed Mercury Prize Nominated Manchester trio fuse jazz elements with electronica and classical. With a new three album deal with Blue Note Records and a recent win at the Jazz FM Awards 2015 (for Jazz Act of the Year), this is a band you’d be mad to miss.
