Kasia Wach from Scoil Mhuire gan Smál in Letterkenny is this year’s overall winner of the Primary Schools Road Safety Art Competition coming out on top from almost 900 entries.  Kasia’s winning art work will feature as an advertising hoarding promoting Road Safety in Finn Park for the 2019 season.

Alongside Kasia’s winning entry, category finalists were also chosen from schools across Donegal including Orlaith Kennedy, Kilkenny NS, Glenties; Sadhbha Nic Aodh, Scoil Naomh Dúigh, Anagaire ; Aoibhín McIvor, Scoil Eoghain, Moville; Adam Lough, Gortnacart NS, Ardara; Eva McGavigan, St. Baithin’s NS, St. Johnston and Jack Mitchell, Scoil an Linbh Iosa, Killymard, Donegal Town.

The Donegal Road Safety Working Group and Finn Harps Football Club presented the winners with prizes at Finn Harps first home game of the new season against Dundalk at Finn Park in Ballybofey on Friday last (22 February). The game finished 1-1 and all the category winners present had a great evening as guests of Finn Harps.

Donegal Road Safety Officer, Brian O’Donnell, praised all the schools for their participation in this very important Road Safety initiative saying “I would like to thank all the schools for getting behind this exciting competition. We were just amazed by the high standard of all the drawings we received, but Kasia’s really stood out. The level of detail is amazing, the drawing highlights a major concern to everyone and the message is clear and relevant: drink and drug driving is a major danger for all road users today and it needs to stop.”

He added “I wish to also congratulate all the category winners and particularly at this time, urge all parents and guardians everywhere to build on the work being done in our schools by demonstrating safe and responsible road use at all times.  It is fantastic that the teachers and pupils got so strongly involved and it is my hope that each pupil who took part will have an increased awareness of road safety as a result”.
