Reporting Unrecorded Archaeological Sites and Objects

County Donegal’s archaeological heritage is not confined to known monuments and sites identified in the Record of Monuments & Places (RMP). Section 19 of the National Monuments (Amendment) Act 1994 sets out the procedures for dealing with the discovery of an unrecorded archaeological objects or sites. If you discover archaeological objects, structures or sites, they must be reported to the National Museum in Dublin or the National Monuments Service in Dublin as soon as possible. The Donegal County Museum in Letterkenny or the County Donegal Heritage Office in Lifford can provide advice on the process involved.  A Monument Report Form has been developed by the National Monuments Service of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage:
