Event Information

It was a great privilege to have the 2023 National Famine Commemoration in Milford on May 21st on the former site of the Milford workhouse, in memory of those who suffered during the Great Famine and to remember those who fled to create new lives abroad.

The event, lead by President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins paid tribute to all those who suffered or perished in the Famine and included a wreath-laying ceremony, music, prayers of remembrance and military honours.

The Government was represented by Jack Chambers, Minister of State at the Department of Transport & Department of the Environment, Climate & Communications.

A truly fitting honour to all those who suffered as a result of An Gorta Mór.
