Donegal County Council proposes to seek the approval of An Bord Pleanála for the Donegal County Council propose to carry out essential maintenance works to three bridges along the R253. The bridges are located in the townlands of Mully, Greenans, Lacklea, Edenfinreagh and Tangaveane between 6.5km and 9km east of the town Glenties on the R253

Description and Extents
It is proposed to repair each of the damaged masonry bridges with like for like material to achieve steady state maintenance levels. Where there are holes in the bridges, or the bridge is missing masonry, this will be repaired using similar imported masonry. Where parts of the structure are detaching from other parts of the bridge, these shall be fixed using helifix tie bars. Vegetation will be removed from the bridge surfaces and the internal and external walls of the bridge will be hand pointed as required. All work is deemed to be essential maintenance work required to preserve the structure in a serviceable state

A Natura Impact Statement has been prepared in respect of the proposed development. An Bord Pleanála may give approval to the application for development with or without conditions or may refuse the application for development.

The Natura Impact Statement documents can be downloaded below, or inspected free of charge or purchased at a fee not exceeding the reasonable cost of making a copy at the front desk of Dungloe Public Services Centre, Gweedore Road, Dungloe, or at the front desk of the Road Design Office, County House Lifford. The Natura Impact Statement may be inspected between the hours of 9:00am – 12:45pm and 1:15pm – 5:00 p.m. from Monday to Thursdays, and from 9:00am – 12:30pm and 1:00pm – 4:30 p.m. on Fridays. The Natura Impact Statement will be available for inspection from Thursday 7th April 2022 to Friday 27th May 2022.

Submission and observations with respect to the proposed development dealing with:

1. The implications of the proposed development for proper planning and sustainable development in the area concerned,
2. The likely effects on the environment of the proposed development,
3. The likely significant effects of the proposed development on a European site, if carried out.
