04/07/18 Housing estates urged to get their applications in for Best Kept Housing Scheme

Best Kept Housing Estate

Cathaoirleach of the Glenties Municipal District Cllr John S. O’Fearraigh discusses the Best Kept Council Housing Scheme with Eamonn Brown, Donegal County Council.


The Council’s annual Best Kept Housing Scheme Competition has been launched for 2018 and Housing estates with at least 20% of Council owned houses are being encouraged to enter the competition.


Cathaoirleach of the Glenties Municipal District Cllr John S. O’ Fearraigh is promoting the competition and hopes to draw a high level of interest from the Glenties Municipal District stating that “the competition is run on a Municipal District basis and a substantial prize fund is available under three different categories. It’s a great opportunity for those involved in the upkeep of their estate to showcase the good work done. I would encourage all housing schemes in the area to enter the competition”.


The competition categories include best scheme of 20 houses or less, between 21 and 50 houses and schemes of 51 houses or more.


Adjudication of entries will take place in August and marks will be awarded for Effort involved; Absence of litter; Planting trees, shrubs, flowers and gardens; Colour and colour harmony; Condition of houses in the Scheme; Absence of unsightly objects; and other Special factors.


Competition entry forms are available from, and should be returned to the local Public Service Centre or Council Office by Friday 27 July 2018.  For more on the competition call 074 91 53900.
