29/10/2014 - Farm Hazardous Waste Collection Day

A collection of Farm Hazardous Wastes will take place on Tuesday 11th November from 9.30am- 3.30pm at Raphoe Mart.


Hazardous wastes such as waste oils and electrical goods will be accepted free of charge while other hazardous wastes including, out of date pesticides and biocides, veterinary medicines and animal healthcare wastes, needles, syringes etc. will be charged at €2 / kg. Farmers are asked to note the following;


  • Each waste type must be clearly identifiable, segregated and packaged to avoid leaks and minimise risks.
  • MIXED wastes will not be accepted.
  • Farm plastics such as silage wrap, fertiliser and feed bags; netting; and triple rinsed pesticide containers will NOT be accepted. 
  • All needles and syringes to be delivered to the centres in separate sealed containers.
  • Payment by cash, cheque or card. 
  • Farmers must have the herd identifier/herd number or tillage number, this will be asked for on the day.
  • Farmers will be issued with a receipt of payment and a certificate of transfer of control of waste.


This pilot collection day is being organised by the EPA, Teagasc, Department of Agriculture, Donegal County Council, WEEE Ireland and RIALTA Environmental Ltd. The collection will provide an excellent opportunity for farmers to dispose of their hazardous waste in a manner that protects human health, livestock and the environment.
