Donegal County Museum is hosting the launch of the Book ‘REFLECTIONS AND RECOLLECTIONS’ Letterkenny Urban District/TownCouncil 1899—2014 on Wednesday 26th November at 7pm in Letterkenny.
Letterkenny Town Council and previously the Urban District Council played an important role in the development of Letterkenny since its inception in 1899. Some of the areas Letterkenny Urban District/ Town Council have been involved with over many years include Water, Roads, Sewage and Housing, Parks and Recreation, the swimming pool, An Grianan Theatre, the RCC and the Donegal County Museum , Public lighting, the Development of the Main Street , Market Square and of the Cathedral Quarter, Tourism, Tidy Towns and Active Letterkenny.
The history of Letterkenny Urban District Council/Town Council contained in this book was written by Donegal County Museum as part of their exhibition “The Greatest of Legacies: Letterkenny Urban District/Town Council 1898-2014”.
Paddy Walsh and Paul Maguire interviewed the last Town Councillors as well as many previous Urban/ Town councillors and staff for this book.
Paddy Walsh
Paddy Walsh worked with the Donegal People’s Press, Donegal Democrat and Derry Journal both as a reporter and as editor of the People’s Press until 2012. He now works as a freelancer. During his career, he covered many meetings of the Urban and Town Council while also reporting on stories relating to the Local Authority and the town.
Paul Maguire
Paul Maguire always had a fascination and interest in history on a local, national and international level. He recently completed a course in Oral History.
